YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region Athlete of the Month: Joel Gervais

Ottawa Fencing’s Joel Gervais came ever so close to being crowned a national champion in the sport of fencing but ultimately came up one spot short, finishing 2nd in the men’s foil event at the 2019 Canadian Fencing Federation National Championships, held in Quebec City in May. Gervais beat opponents by scores of 15-0, 15-6, 15-11 and 15-6 on his way to the national championship bout, where he was defeated by B.C.’s Adam Wong.
