HOMAN BOUNCED FROM SCOTTIES, SINCLAIR TO COMPETE AT WORLDS

Ottawa’s Team Homan came up short in the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, falling to the team representing Alberta in an 8-6 defeat. Manotick-born Jamie Sinclair will represent Team USA at the World Women’s Curling Championship this month in Silkborg, Denmark, where she’ll compete against the team that prevented Homan’s rink from representing Team Canada, as well as others who are among the best in the world.

TITANS ARE TOPS IN U18 CATEGORY OF HOME TOURNEY

Three-hundred-and-fifty athletes from nine different water polo clubs came to Ottawa in February to compete in the Titans Cup. The Titans won gold in the U18 category, while teams from the club also won bronze in the U12 division and silver and bronze in the U10 division.

JR. OTTAWA FENCER WINS MEDAL INTERNATIONALLY

Ottawa’s Patrick Liu secured 3rd place in the junior men’s foil team event at the 2019 Junior/Cadet Pan-American Fencing Championships in Bogota, Colombia. His medal was one of 16 Canada took home from the competition.

WILDCATS, LADY SENS ON THE ROPES IN PWHL PLAYOFFS

Both the Nepean Wildcats and the Ottawa Lady Sens are facing an uphill battle in the 2019 PWHL playoffs. With both teams down two games to none, they will be hoping to stave off elimination on March 15, when they both play in potentially season-ending games.

LOCAL CCHL SQUADS PLAYOFF BOUND

The Central Canada Hockey League’s regular season is coming to a close, and the Ottawa Junior Senators and the Kanata Lasers have already having clinched a playoff spot. The Junior Senators took the league by storm finishing 2nd overall with 87 points and a record of 42 wins and 16 losses. The Lasers secured the 4th and final playoff position in the Robinson division after finishing with 65 points. The Nepean Raiders will miss the postseason after finishing last in the Robinson division.

LOCAL RINGETTE SQUADS PICK UP EARLY PROVINCIAL MEDALS

The 2019 AA Provincial Ringette Championships took place from March 7-10 with Ottawa taking home multiple medals. Gloucester Cumberland Ringette won a silver medal in the U16 junior division, with West Ottawa placing 3rd. In the U19 junior division, City of Ottawa Ringette won 2nd and Nepean finished 3rd. Carleton University defeated Wilfrid Laurier University in the bronze medal game of the 18 and older university division.
