Kelleigh Ryan of Ottawa helped Canada’s women’s foil team to its best ever finish at October’s Fencing World Cup in Cancun, Mexico. The team, coached by Ottawa Fencing’s Paul ApSimon, was ranked 7th in the world going into the tournament. The team defeated Great Britain 45-36, then 4th ranked France by a score of 45-37, before losing to Italy in the semifinals. They lost to the United States in the bronze medal contest by a score of 33-26. The record-breaking finish at the World Cup comes in the same year they placed 6th at the World Championships.
