Brown 5Carp native Joanna Brown continued to ride high following her first senior national title victory at June’s Ottawa International Triathlon, scoring career-best World Triathlon Series finishes in August – 7th in Edmonton and then 4th in Montreal and Stockholm.

“It feels so damn good,” Brown, who is now based in Victoria, B.C., said in a Triathlon Canada media release. “I can’t believe these last 2 weeks. It has been pretty awesome. I have been in a really good place and in a good environment. I have been consistent all year, and being able to train with a good group of people has brought it all together. I knew if I had the pacing right I was capable of a performance like this and I did it.”

The WTS Grand Final goes Sept. 14-17 in the Netherlands. Brown is currently ranked 7th in the world.

Five athletes from the host Bytown Storm Triathlon Club punched their tickets to the 2018 Ontario Summer Games thanks to their performances on this season’s Ontario Youth Cup series, including the season-ending Dunrobin Kids of Steel event on Aug. 20.

Isabella Filby, Kiana Knelsen, Liv Horn, Miguel Alvarez and Aidan Spaans will all compete at next summer’s provincial multi-sport competition in London.

On the strength of her victory during the Ottawa International Triathlon and 3rd-place finish at the provincial championships, Ottawa’s Teagan Shapansky finished 2nd overall in the Ontario Junior Cup series standings.
