Dustin Cook nears World Cup podium in return from injury that wiped out last season

Ottawa native Dustin Cook earned his best performance since returning from reconstructive knee surgery on Deb. 16 in Val Gardena, placing 6th in the men’s super-G at the Italian World Cup stop.

“I’m really proud of that one and it showed me that I can be back with the best of the best where I believe I belong,” Cook wrote on his website, dustincook.ca.

The 27-year-old’s other best World Cup results this season include 13th and 23rd-place showings in super-Gs at Val d’Isère and Santa Caterina, though he did not finish his last two races at Kitzbuehel and Garmisch Partenkirchen.

Ottawa skiers Hunter Watson, Sierra Smith and Hannah Schmidt recorded a slalom victory apiece at FIS races Val St-Côme, Que.
