5 medals for local paddlers at international Olympic Hopes regatta

Phil Turcanu added to a medal collection that included 6 gold from the Ontario Summer Games at the Sept. 23-25 Olympic Hopes Regatta in Hungary.

The Ottawa River Canoe Club athlete won a bronze medal in the C-1 men’s 500-metre race for 2000-born paddlers, and also earned a 4th-place finish in C-1 men’s 1,000 m and a 5th in C-2 men’s 1,000 m.

Isaac Finkelstein won a trio of medals with silver in the C-1 men’s 500 m and bronze medals in C-2 men’s 500 m and 1,000 m for athletes born in 1999. The Rideau Canoe Club paddler also had 3 4th-place finishes in C-1 men’s 1,000 m (1999) and C-4 men’s 200 m and 1,000 m (1999-2001).

Rideau’s Courtney Spratt also landed on the podium, grabbing C-2 women’s 1,000 m (1999) bronze, while Rideau clubmate Conor O’Neill’s top finish at the competition was 8th
