Ottawa athletes followed up their strong performances at the Nov. 5 OFSAA high school cross-country running championships with some more standout results at Athletics Ontario\’s provincial club championships this past weekend in Guelph.
Representing the Ottawa Lions, local runners won team titles in the youth girls\’ and junior men\’s categories, and placed third in midget girls and junior women.
Scott Donald and Emma Galbraith, both top-10 OFSAA finishers at the Hornets Nest, led the Lions champion teams with fourth-place individual results in their respective races.
Donald completed the 8 km course in 26 minutes, 17.31 seconds, while Kieran Day, Mickey Day and Alex Berhe followed in ninth, 11th and 23rd place.
Galbraith ran her 4 km course in 14:51, while Hannah Gaensler (5), Erin O\’Higgins (13) and Lindsay Kary (20) all cracked the top-20 to post an impressive team score that put them comfortably on top.
Olivia Robertson also earned a fourth-place result after a top-10 at OFSAA, as Erinn Stenman-Fahey, Margaux McLean and Alanna Shearman followed to help the Lions to midget girls\’ bronze, while Julia Nikonorova led the Lions junior women to bronze.
OFSAA senior boys\’ champion Yves Sikubwabo did not compete at the event.
