Fury Boys Program Ranked #1 in North America

The United Soccer Leagues unveiled the 2011 Super Y-League rankings on Wednesday and the Ottawa Fury Boys Program finds itself on top! The Fury Boys Program, that will see all five of its teams travel to the SYL North American Finals at the beginning of December, receives its highest ranking in the program\’s history.

“To be the top ranked North American boys program in the Super Y-League is a tremendous accomplishment and this achievement is due to the tremendous dedication and efforts of our players and coaches,” said Ottawa Fury Owner and CEO John Pugh. “We\’ve always said that \’our success is measured by the success of our players\’ and this is another testament to this belief.”

The Fury Boys program is led by Technical Director Steve Hill, who also coaches the Fury U15 Boys team. Hill and his fellow coaches, Jimmy Zito (U13 & U16 Boys), Mike Gagliano (U14 Boys) and Jason DaCosta (U17 Boys), will see their teams compete in next month\’s Super Y-League North American Championships where they expect to solidify this ranking against other top SYL clubs from across North America.

Three of the five Fury Boys teams destined for Tampa enter as Division Champs as the U13 Boys, U15 Boys and U16 Boys all put together banner seasons.

Overall, and for the second year running, the Ottawa Fury remain as the #2 ranked SYL Club in North America which combines the ranking of both the boys and girls programs.

After capturing the Super Y-League Championship at the U17 Girls level in 2010, the Fury Girls program dropped in the rankings in 2011 to #15 after only sending two teams to the SYL Finals this year.

The ranking ties the highest ranking that the Club has received and to add to this impressive feat the Fury are 2nd among 104 Super Y-League clubs.

With 7 teams preparing to trek south to Tampa, FL in three weeks time the Fury do have the opportunity to climb the ranks further with their on-field performance. As this is a points-based ranking, points are still awarded to teams that advance to the semifinals, finals and capture a championship banner.
