On 18 January 2022, Ottawa South MPP John Fraser and representatives from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) and the Ontario Lacrosse Association attended a virtual recognition event to congratulate the Gloucester Lacrosse Association (GLA) on the work done as a result of receiving a $51,300 Resilient Communities Fund OTF grant.
The grant enabled the GLA to rebuild and recover from impacts of COVID-19 by providing adaptive and flexible approaches in their commitment to offer children and youth access to quality Lacrosse programming. The project was completed in January 2022 and will continue to give families equitable access and opportunity to play Canada’s National Summer Sport for years to come.
“I am excited that the Gloucester Lacrosse Association (GLA) was chosen as a recipient of a Resilient Communities Fund OTF grant. This grant will be instrumental in supporting passionate young lacrosse players in the community by enhancing program delivery and alleviating access barriers to families. The Gloucester Lacrosse Association hosts more than just recreational sports activities, they also provide children and youth with a space to connect with one another joined by their love for this iconic Canadian sport,” said MPP John Fraser.
In addition to providing the opportunity to reimagine the delivery of lacrosse programming, this grant enabled the GLA to procure necessary equipment and resources and to conduct a financial consultation aimed at implementing best practices to foster financial sustainability and resiliency as COVID-19 continues to impact this sector.
“The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be understated,” said Stephanie Pagan, President of the Gloucester Lacrosse Association. “This grant has allowed the GLA to persevere in light of significant hardship to provide our families and lacrosse community with programming and much needed social connections and support.”
Lacrosse is Canada’s National Summer Sport with strong Indigenous roots and for more than 50 years the Gloucester Lacrosse Association has maintained a fun and organized box lacrosse program focused on fair play and improving skills for all youth (ages 3-21).
Player registration will be opening soon. If you wish to inquire about registering your child in lacrosse programming, please visit the website at: www.gloucester-lacrosse.com or email help@gloucester-lacrosse.com
