The Gloucester Skating Club hosted over 600 skaters for its annual Elizabeth Manley Winter Classic event from Feb. 22-24 at Bob MacQuarrie Recreation Complex – Orléans. Part of the Skate Ontario Super Series, the competition served as a final tune-up for many athletes prior to the Mar. 7-10 Provincial Championships in Mississauga.
Local athletes hitting the podium at provincials included Glen Cairn’s Lucille Yang (U12 juvenile women) and Rideau’s Chloe Hataley/Liam Carney – gold (pre-novice pair), Gloucester’s Joshua Dore (novice men) – silver, and Gloucester’s Hayley McGuire (novice women), Minto’s Daniel Kreft (novice men) and Nepean’s Katherine Medland Spence (senior women) – bronze.
