The 04 Force White boys kicked off their season by traveling to Oshawa to play in the Frank Sobil tournament. Placed in a pool with Pickering, Oshawa and Kings United the boys played well and were successful in winning their pool which advanced them to the semi-finals on Sunday afternoon.
In the semi-final they were pitted against Rexdale United FC. Playing into a very strong headwind the boys battled and at the half were down 1-0. With the wind now at their backs they dominated the second half and after squandering several opportunities they were rewarded with a penalty shot that Kelvin Bicol calmly slotted into the corner to level the score. After a scoreless overtime the game headed to penalty shots. With two great saves from Ian Vandenberg and four well taken penalties they were off to the finals.
In the final the opposition was Wexford SC who had also advanced via a shootout. Once again playing into a strong headwind the boys the boys entered halftime down 1-0. As they did in the semi-final they dominated the second half and forced the Wexford keeper to make several outstanding saves to keep them off the scoreboard. After being rewarded with a free kick Kelvin Bicol knotted the score by depositing the free kick perfectly just inside the post. After a feverish finish the boys were once again headed to overtime. Determined to finish the game and avoid a shootout the boys worked hard and became the tournament champions when Ian Morales calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net.
Congratulations to all of the boys for an outstanding effort and to Kelvin Bicol for being selected as the MVP of the final by the Wexford coach.

Hanisch in Canadian colours
Ottawa South United Club’s Isabella Hanisch took part in Canada Soccer’s final tracking camp for U-17 players ahead of a U17 Women’s Four Nations Tournament in China in July from 29 May to 4 June in Burnaby, B.C.
The camp continued to focus on the development of this age group through Canada Soccer’s National EXCEL Curriculum and provided National EXCEL Director Bev Priestman a final opportunity to assess the players ahead of selection for a friendly four nations tournament in China against Japan, China and the USA.
A critical tournament for the player’s development, it will serve as a key testing ground ahead of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Uruguay 2018.
Congrats Isabella!
Kudos from TFC
OSU was proud to be recognized by Toronto F.C. last week for sending three players into their Academy this year!
Daniel Assaf, Antonio Carlini and Mehdi Essoussi all joined the reigning Major League Soccer eastern conference champions’ program in the winter.
