The national capital association held its city finals this fall for two sports on the springtime OFSAA calendar – boys’ soccer and tennis.
Franco-Cité beat Ashbury for the ‘AA’ soccer title, while South Carleton downed St. Pius to claim the ‘AAA’ berth, and east-division regular-season champion Louis-Riel was uncontested for the region’s ‘A’ entry.
With a boys’ singles gold and both the champion and runner-up positions in mixed doubles, the Glebe Gryphons earned the most OFSAA entries in the open division from the high school tennis city finals, held in late October at the Ottawa Athletic Club.
The boys’ singles champ was Daniel Flores, an exchange student who was ranked as a top-20 junior in Mexico at age 15.
“He’s a very nice young man, very polite,” highlights Glebe coach Nick Patterson. “And very talented.”
The Colonel By Cougars took 4 of 10 OFSAA positions in the competition for athletes that play tennis only at high school, sweeping the two available positions in both mixed and girls’ doubles.
