Ottawa native Julianne Zussman and the Canadian women’s rugby team celebrated a Women’s Rugby Super Series title on July 9 in Salt Lake City.
The Ashbury College product scored two tries in Canada’s 52-17 tournament-opening win over England, added another in a 33-5 victory over the United States, and started in the 29-10 championship game against France to complete the Canadians’ run of dominance.
Four local women’s rugby players helped Canada to a silver medal at the July 6-9 FISU World University Sevens Championships in Wales. The Canadian lineup included University of Ottawa Gee-Gees-bred Dria Bennett, Samantha Alli and Irene Patrinos, and Ottawa Irish club product Pamphinette Buisa.
Buisa scored a try in 17-5 win over Spain, Patrinos did the same to edge Portugal 14-12, then each had one in a 19-17 win over China, followed by a pair from both in a 36-0 drubbing of Australia to qualify for the final, where they fell 31-5 to France.
The team was coached by the Gee-Gees’ Jen Boyd.
