Gymnasts on Ontario & Canada teams

Haley Miller of the Kanata Rhythmic Gymnastics Club recorded a 3rd-place finish in the rope event at a competition in Italy while on tour with Team Ontario. The early-July trip also included a week-long training camp with former Olympian Aliah Garaeva, a 2011 all-around World Championships medallist who competed for Russia and later Azerbaijan.

Also in July, Ottawa Rhythmic Gymnastics Club product Cleo Page was named to the Canadian group rhythmic gymnastics team for the 2016-17 season.

And Juliette Chapman of Tumblers Gymnastics Centre got some great news on the heels of her Novice high-performance floor title and 4th-place all-around finish at the Canadian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in June.

The 13-year-old was named to Canada’s youth national team and earned an “espoir” designation that puts her first in line on a watch list out of her youth group to potentially be called up to the senior national team for competitions.

“We have a great deal of talent coming up through the gymnastics ranks in Canada in both our athletes and their coaches,” Gymnastics Canada artistic program director Karl Balisch, a former coach and general manager at Tumblers, said in a media release. “Many of these gymnasts have been inspired by our incredible athletes set to represent Canada at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this summer, which will no doubt motivate them in their own pursuit of competing internationally.”
