Glebe Collegiate Institute student Claire Smith won the girls’ 3,000 m race handily at the North American trials for this summer’s Youth Olympic Games in China, finishing around 20 seconds ahead of the field in a time of 9:50.98.
Canterbury High School’s Erinn Stenman-Fahey was a close second in the girls’ 800 m.
The national capital east and west conference track-and-field championships will be held May 14 and 15, with the city finals set for May 21-22 at Terry Fox Athletic Facility.
