Jason Dunkerley, along with fill-in guide runner Cody Boast, won silver and bronze medals in the men\’s 1,500 metres and 5,000 m at the Parapan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.
“I’m happy to be here and win silver, my principal guide runner, Josh Karanja, got hurt and it was great to have Cody here to step up and help out,” Dunkerley said in a Canadian Paralympic Committee press release.
Dunkerley finished the 1,500 m race in four minutes, 20.17 seconds and the 5,000 m in 16:47.5 to win his pair of medals in the T11 visually-impaired class.
The Canadian goalball team featuring numerous Ottawa athletes finished second in its pool behind the U.S. and will face Brazil in the semi-finals.
