Host G-C Stars win three titles at home tourney

East-end hockey rinks were busy all weekend as the Gloucester-Cumberland Girls\’ Hockey Association hosted its 2011 Kickin\’ Ice in the Capital tournament.

Over 70 teams competed in different categories, and the host association brought home titles in Novice House League, Atom B, Bantam C, while finishing as runners-up in Novice B and Peewee B.

Ottawa beat Russell Coyotes 3-2 in the Novice B final and also took the Atom House crown to provide a few more standout local performances.

Lac St. Louis beat Cornwall 2-1 with Gloucester in third in Peewee A, Brockville was best in Peewee B and Vaughan took Intermediate A.

Santin Masonary beat Carleton Place in Peewee House League, Eagles MRO were first in Bantam and Midget House League divisions, while Smiths Falls topped Nepean in Midget B.

This year\’s tournament raised funds for Candlelighters and Therapeutic Clowns Canada, both charities that helped Morgan Wall, a young Gloucester-Cumberland player who passed away last year from a rare form of cancer called Rhabdomyosorcoma.
