Capital City FC earned a playoff berth in its inaugural season yesterday by defeating the defending Canadian Soccer League champions on the road yesterday in Brantford.
Sullivan Silva broke a streak of over 300 minutes of shutout play by Brantford with a goal in the 12th minute, Akil DeFreitas scored twice and Junior Ellis brought the final total to 4-0 as the 13-4-5 club clinched a spot in the postseason with four games left on its schedule.
“Step one was making the playoffs,” Capital City head coach Shaun Harris notes in a game recap on capitalcityfc.com. “I think a lot of people thought we would have a harder time, but our players were brought here with the objective to win and make a run at the cup title.”
Capital City finishes its road schedule today in St. Catharines, who they’ll host back in Ottawa on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Terry Fox Athletic Facility for a 7 p.m. start.
