June/July 2017 Team of the Month: FC Capital United U13 Boys’ Soccer Team
FC Capital United stood tall for Canada and earned a .500 record in 8 games against some top international competition during their May 25-28 trip to the globally-recognized under-13 Mondial Pupilles de Plomelin soccer tournament in France.
The Ottawa boys jolted the host club from Combrit 5-0 in their tournament opener, drew Montpellier 0-0, then were shutout by French sides from Brest and Metz, rebounded for back-to-back shutout wins of their own over JS St-Pierroise (from the French island of Réunion east of Madagascar) and Haïti’s AS Truitie, and finished with a 1-0 loss to AS Roma and a scoreless draw with French club US Liffré.
The competition for Cap U’s division took place in Combrit Sainte Marine, at the western tip of France. The tournament is renowned for the warm welcome it provides to the international visitors, with all players hosted, fed and entertained by local families.
Prior to the tournament, the team also spent time at the Centre Regional Technique in Nantes for daily training and friendlies with local youth clubs/academies.
This year was FC Capital United’s 15th invitation and appearance at the Plomelin event.
