Kate Braddon of the Rideau Canoe Club won a silver medal in the women’s K2 1,000 m at September’s under-17 Olympic Hopes regatta in the Czech Republic. Making his international debut for Canada, Victor Turcanu of the Ottawa River Canoe Club placed fifth in the K-2 men’s 500 m.
John Hastings and Cameron Smedley of the Ottawa River Runners made it to the semi-final round at September’s canoe slalom whitewater world championships, placing 34th in K-1 and 27th in C-1 respectively. River Runners Alexandra McGee, 23rd in C-1, and Thea Froehlich, 47th in K-1, also competed in the Czech Republic.
Meanwhile, Ottawa’s Frank Desrosier placed 23rd in the U23 men’s kayak category at the ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships in Denmark. The event featured several portages and was attended by three Canadian flatwater sprint Olympians.
